Mirabello uses the varieties of Sitia but not its blend and it is the freshest wine ever on the market. Mirabello 2015 exudes the wild sunny side of eastern Crete, with the power of tannins taming the quiet dried fruit of Liatiko. A suspicion of funkiness in the wine comes to complement the dense fruit, which although “tight” at first unfolds hour by hour. For so many years, Oikonomou patiently taught us that his wines evolve uniquely over time. Now it’s time for us to decide whether to drink Mirabello or let it age in our cellar.
